A senior citizen living in Hæðargarður centrally in Reykjavík was surprised when he looked out the window early this morning and noticed a sea eagle soaring above the city. He stated he had recognized the bird by its size and “tattered” tips of its wings, as he put it to ruv.is.
Last month Morgunblaðið newspaper published a photo of a young sea eagle flying over Heiðmörk outdoor recreational area, which lies within the capital’s borders. Apparently, sea eagles have been spotted in Reykjavík annually for the past years.
In early March, it was reported that a sea eagle had become trapped inside a sheepcote at the farm Kross in Berufjörður, Southeast Iceland.
The usual habitat of sea eagles, a protected species in Iceland, is West Iceland and the West Fjords.
