The former mayor Thórólfur Arnason was all smiles last night as he officially stepped down as the Mayor of Reykjavík.
His last official act in office was the signing of a bill to create a maritime museum in Reykjavík.
Mr. Arnason resigned as mayor over his involvement in a price-fixing scandal at the three major oil companies.
Reykjavík’s new mayor, Steinunn Valdis Óskarsdóttir, officially took over the office as of this morning. Ms. Óskarsdóttir was a former city council member, serving on the R-List since 1994.
The 39-year old mayor was a chairman of city planning and is a board member of Reykjavík Energy.
