First Day of Winter will look like one, according to Vísir. Saturday this week is officially the First Day of Winter. That day, there will be northerly winds and cold temperatures all over the country. The Icelandic Met Office expects frost in most parts of the country, snow in the north, but clear skies in the south.

That’s quite some change since Friday, last week, when a heat record was set for October 16 as the thermometer registered 18.4°C(65.1°F) in Neskaupstaður, East Iceland. Nearby Reyðarfjörður came in a close second that day with 18.3°C (64.9°F). The old record was 18.2°C (64.8°F) from Teigarhorn, also in East Iceland, dating back to 1934.
