Salmon fishing season begins

The first day of the salmon fishing season in Iceland was yesterday. Bjarni Júlíusson, the director of the Angling Club of Reykjavík, caught the first salmon, only ten minutes after the season opening.

“Once this salmon would have landed on the BBQ,” Júlíusson told Morgunbladid, before releasing the nine pound female salmon back into Nordurá river in West Iceland. Salmon fishers are expected to release their catch.

Four salmon were caught in Nordurá yesterday.
