Shipping company Eimskip has decided to resume the sailing route along the western coastline between Reykjavík and Ísafjördur, the capital of the West Fjords, after many years of no sea transport between the regions.
Now cargo will be transported via ship again and not just via land. This new service will be offered in cooperation with Eimskip’s partners in the West Fjords, Morgunbladid reports.
Eimskip’s ships that sail to America, Reykjafoss and Celia, will offer this service every two weeks for the next three months on a trial basis.
CEO of Eimskip in Iceland Gudmundur P. Davídsson said in a statement that it is pleasing that Eimskip can offer this service again and he hopes that this arrangement will be successful and prove capable of strengthening the community and the economy in the West Fjords.
