Journalists at RUV state radio have had a vote of non confidence in RUV director Markús Örn Antonsson after he hired, according to them, the least capable candidate for news director.
Many journalists have threatened to resign if Audun Georg Ólafsson actually starts work at their headquarters. They are also angered by the comments of Antonsson on news show Kastljósid last night when he stated that he had hired Ólafsson because he’s a young man and that RUV needed to appeal more to young people.
When asked whether he was belittling the experience of the other candidates who had worked in the news room for a long time and directed shifts, Antonsson replied, “Direct shifts? Is that really important? It won’t take a long time to learn how to do that.”
