The news room of Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV received this week the EBU’s first prize for news reporting in 2010 for its coverage of the volcanic eruptions in Fimmvörduháls and Eyjafjallajökull in the spring and the economic collapse in Iceland.

News director Ódinn Jónsson accepted the award in Athens on Tuesday. Danish television station TV2 placed second with its coverage of the war in Afghanistan.
The EBU award bears the name of Gunnar Hoydal, who was the chief editor of EBU for a long time, ruv.is reports.
