The annual womens run or Kvennahlaupid will be held all around Iceland on Saturday. The womens run is one of the biggest sports events of the year and in relation to number of participants it is by far the largest.
The womens run is a cross country run and is open for every woman, regardless of age or shape. It is not a race, and every woman can run or walk at her own pace. It was first held in 1990 and the event has been getting larger ever since.
The womens run will be held in over 80 places all around Iceland and Icelandic woman also organize runs abroad, like in Denmark, Canada and Belgium. Icelandic female travelers also gather up and run for example in Australia.
The place that has always attracted the greatest number of participants is Gardabaer. The run will start at 14.00 from the Gardabaer square.
