A royal eider couple was recently spotted among common eiders in Siglufjördur, north Iceland. The birds are very rare in Iceland; only one other royal eider couple has ever been spotted in Iceland.
According to bird expert Aevar Pedersen, royal eider males are spotted more frequently in Iceland, which are known to have mated with common eider females, as Morgunbladid reports.
Siglufjördur is noted for its birdlife; many thousands of birds inhabit the fjord.
