Royal Baby Has Relative in Iceland

Nineteen-year-old student Óðinn Páll Ríkharðsson from Reykjavík is likely the only Icelander who’s a relative of the newborn heir to the British throne, son of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Óðinn and the little prince, George Alexander Louis, are third cousins, as confirmed by Óðinn’s mother Hildur Helga Sigurðardóttir to mbl.is.

Hildur’s former father-in-law and Duchess Kate’s father are first cousins, which makes the Dutchess and Óðinn’s father second cousins.

“Óðinn Páll has good relations with his father’s family, the Middletons, who come from the Yorkshire region,” stated Hildur.

“He often visits his granddad and other family members in the summer. He and Kate have met at family gatherings, but they’re hardly close,” she added.

“We might send them greetings; it’s always pleasing when new babies are born into families. However, it’s for Óðinn Páll to decide,” Hildur concluded.
