A man and a woman planned on rowing from Reykjavík to Videy Island on December 29. The idea would be unusual in summer but in the snow and darkness of winter it seemed so stupid that the police stopped the pair in the harbor, according to RÚV.

The officers pointed out the obvious dangers of rowing out to the island, about 4.3 kilometers from Reykjavík harbor, especially in the middle of winter. The people did not wear safety vests nor had they any intention of doing so. The policemen said the couple was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Sometimes people swim from Videy to Reykjavík. But they usually do that in summer.
