Rooms Sealed at Adam Hotel

The Adam Hotel story continues. The hotel has been in the news since it advised its guests to purchase bottled water, sold by the hotel, instead of drinking water from the tap. This morning, police sealed eight guest rooms at the hotel, RÚV reports. Three more rooms will be sealed as soon as the guests staying there have left. The reason is that the hotel only has a permit for nine rooms, although it has been renting out 20.

The action was taken by police following an investigation by the Public Health Authority and the Reykjavík District Commissioner. The Fire Prevention Authority also visited the hotel and made observations.

According to information from the Fire Department, a couch had been placed in front of one of the fire exits. It was moved. An annual inspection of fire alarms had not been completed. There was nothing, though, that suggested a malfunction of the alarms, according to the Fire Department.

Incidentally, out of 90 guest comments on Tripadvisor, 39 rate the hotel as terrible, 21 as poor, 14 as average, eight as very good and eight guests rate it as excellent. The location seems to please most of the guests, but cleanliness appears to be lacking on every level.
