Roofing Sheets Taken off Wrong House

When Diðrik Ísleifsson picked up the phone Friday, the voice on the other end told him the roofing sheets had been taken off his house. “I thought this was a joke, that someone was playing a trick on me. But it wasn’t; it was a fact,” he remarked. There was nothing wrong with the roof of Diðrik’s house in Garðabær, near Reykjavík. Instead, the contractors had mistakenly removed the sheets from a wrong roof, RÚV reports.

“My granddaughter lives in the house and didn’t notice anything until she saw the roof sheets flying down outside her window. She went outside and saw workers on the roof, tearing the sheets off,” Diðrik stated. “They stopped working as soon as she asked what they were doing and called the contractor who quickly showed up.”

The sheets that had been torn off were damaged, and even though half of the sheets were still untouched, they all had to be removed. “Then they applied new [tar] paper and plan to install new roofing sheets next week.”

There were no plans to replace the roof now, Diðrik said, “but this is how mistakes are made.”
