Rocker wins Icelandic Eurovision

Heavy metal vocalist Eiríkur Hauksson was elected Iceland’s representative in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki, Finland, to be held on May 10 and 12, by televoters on Saturday.

Hauksson performed the rock song “Ég les í lófa þínum” (“I read in your palm”) by Sveinn Rúnar Sigurdsson, accompanied by several guitarists. Fréttabladid reports.

Hauksson has competed in Eurovision on two earlier occasions, for Iceland in 1986, which was the first time Iceland participated, and for Norway in 1991.

During the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004, 2005 and 2006 Hauksson took part in a panel discussion about the competition on Scandinavian television.
