Roads Closed, Iceland Struck by Blizzards

After mild weather and spring-like thaw during Easter, most regions were subject to snowfall last night and this morning a blizzard raged on the mountain pass Öxnadalsheiði in North Iceland, which is part of the Ring Road, causing it to be closed.

Difficult road conditions were also reported on roads in the West Fjords, on Holtavörðuheiði mountain pass connecting North and West Iceland and on Hellisheiði mountain pass, along with other roads leading from West to South Iceland, reports.

However, roads are mostly clear in Northeast and East Iceland and along the southeastern coastline.
