Helga Margrét Thorsteinsdóttir, 16, broke the Icelandic record in women’s pentathlon (80-meter hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and 200 meters) in the National Athletics Championship yesterday.
Thorsteinsdóttir holds the record in pentathlon in four different age categories, Morgunbladid reports.
The young athlete plans to compete at the 2012 Olympics in London and this summer she aims at qualifying for the under-17 European Championship in Poland.
“I have to fix certain things in the next few years for better achievement. Sometimes I’m good in shot put and sometimes in high jump,” Thorsteinsdóttir said.
