Ring Road Reopens After Accidents

Ring Road One has been reopened in South Iceland and West Iceland following two accidents between 7 and 8 am this morning which led to road closures, RÚV reports. The road was closed to traffic both ways in South Iceland by the secondary road from Sólheimajökull glacier following a collision between a passenger car and a tank truck carrying oil, which rolled over.

The road has been reopened and traffic is being directed by police. According to Sveinn Kristján Rúnarsson, police supervisor, a few minor injuries occurred and the accident caused leakage from the tank truck. The leak has been stopped, but it is unknown how much oil leaked from the vehicle.

The accident in West Iceland occurred north of the Hvalfjarðargöng tunnel. The road was closed for around two hours, but is now open to all traffic.
