The Ring Road in Southwest Iceland, east of Selfoss, between Kjartansstaðir and Bitra, has been closed due to an accident, according to Vísir. A dairy tanker rolled over just after 9 am and landed sideways on the road, blocking traffic completely.
The driver, who was alone in the tanker, is not believed to be seriously injured. He was still stuck inside the vehicle at noon, and efforts were being made to release him and bring him to hospital.
Police do not expect the road to reopen any time soon. Heavy equipment is needed to remove the tanker. Road conditions are bad in the area, and it will take a while to bring in all the necessary equipment.
Travelers have the option to take a detour along roads 305 and 302.
