RIFF Wraps Up, Golden Puffin Awarded

The Reykjavík International Film Festival wrapped up yesterday after its closing ceremony on Saturday night. At the ceremony, held at Harpa concert and conference center, the festival’s main prize, the Golden Puffin, was awarded to the U.S. film Beasts of the Southern Wild by Benh Zeitlin.

The jury said the film had won “For its spirit of storytelling, visual inventiveness and creative audacity, which marks Benh Zeitlin as a leading figure for the next generation of independent film artists,” according to a press release.

Other films to take home awards include:

Starlet by Sean Baker – FIPRESCI Critics’ Award

God’s Neighbours (Ha Masgihim) by Meni Yaesh – The Church of Iceland Award

Queen of Montreuil by Sólveig Anspach – Audience Award

¡Vivan las Antipodas! by Viktor Kossakovsky – Environment Award

Sailcloth by Elfar Aðalsteins – Best Icelandic Short

On this Island by Matthew Hammett Knott – Golden Egg
