Reykjavík University Moves into New Building

Reykjavík University (RU) moves into a new building in Nauthólsvík, near the capital’s thermal beach, today. To celebrate, students and teachers, 900 people in total, will march from RU’s headquarters in Ofanleiti to the new building.

Mayor of Reykjavík Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir, rector of RU Svafa Grönfeldt, her successor Ari Kristinn Jónsson and Sunna Magnúsdóttir, chairwoman of RU’s student association, will address the assembly in the new building, Fréttabladid reports.

After the ceremony, guests will be invited to take a look around the new building. Teaching will begin at 11 am.

Three of RU’s five departments will move into the new building today. The other two will follow next summer, after which all of RU’s operations will be under one roof. Constructions began in early 2008.
