Reykjavík University expands

By Iceland Review

Mayor of Reykjavík Vilhjálmur Th. Vilhjálmsson will formally hand over a lot to Reykjavík University today near the Pearl, where one of the largest buildings in the capital region will rise.

The new building will be about 35,000 square meters in size and by fall 2010 will house the university’s entire operations, ruv.is reports.

As part of the ceremony, students and staff of Reykjavík University will christen the lot by walking around it with torches, an ancient tradition.

Following the ceremony, the university’s swim team will swim at the nearby Nauthólsvík thermal beach.
