Reykjavík Swimming Pool Open 24/7

The Laugardalslaug swimming pool in Reykjavík was open last night and will not close until Monday evening next week. The pool has never been open around the clock before—organizers are waiting to see how many people are keen on night swimming.

Bjarni Kjartansson, the operating director of Laugardalslaug, told Morgunbladid that it is hard to foresee how many people will take advantage of the new opening hours.

“We just have to see what happens. It is beautiful here during the night and in the entire Laugardalur area and I expect people to welcome the initiative,” Kjartansson said.

Laugardalslaug, originally constructed in 1908, is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland that is made out of concrete. It is located in Laugardalur valley near the botanical garden and the capital’s campsite.
