Reykjavík Shops Aurum and Nostalgia Awarded

The jewelry store Aurum on Bankastræti 4 in the center of the capital received the annual recognition Njarðarskjöldurinn from the City of Reykjavík and collaborators last week for contributing to increased service to travelers who visit the downtown area.

“The experience of customers and of everyone who visits Aurum is very important to us and therefore we emphasize that people enjoy dropping by,” owner of Aurum Guðbjörg Ingvarsdóttir, told Morgunblaðið.

Guðbjörg opened Aurum in 1999 after completing her goldsmith and design studies. “Our goal was to make Aurum an exciting shop with a varied selection of products which would appeal to everyone.” She added that both locals and foreigners take a liking to Icelandic design.

Alongside Njarðarskjöldurinn, the recognition Freyjusómi was presented to a shop in Reykjavík for the first time last week for demonstrating creativity and innovation; the first annual Freyjusómi went to the second-hand store Nostalgía on Laugavegur 32.

Nostalgía’s owner Þuríður Hauksdóttir said most customers are between the ages of 18 and 35; in addition to Icelanders, Swedes, Faroese, Brits and Americans have often dropped by.

Þuríður stated many of her customers have commented that they have rarely seen such a varied selection of vintage clothing.
