Reykjavík Pride Parade Today

Reykjavík Pride was officially launched on Tuesday and involves a six-day schedule of events, the highlight of which is today’s parade through central Reykjavík.

The family-friendly Reykjavík Pride parade often attracts over 100,000 people and is one of the country’s biggest annual events.

The parade starts at 14.00 from near the BSÍ coach terminal and ends up at Arnarhóll, near Harpa. The parade is always followed by a free outdoor concert featuring various artists—always including Iceland’s most fabulous superstar, Páll Óskar.

In celebration of Reykjavík Pride, Skólavörðustígur, the shopping street up to Hallgrímskirkja cathedral, has been painted in rainbow colors from top to bottom. The colorful markings were hand-painted by hundreds of volunteers, including Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson, this week and have made headlines around the world.

Skólavörðustígur will remain fabulously colorful until the end of the summer, according to the City of Reykjavík.
