Reykjavík Prepares for Record Number of Cruisers

Four cruise ships are expected to dock in Reykjavík today, more than have ever visited Iceland’s capital at the same time before. The ships’ passengers and crews number approximately 10,000 combined.

Many of these people intend to go sightseeing in Haukadalur, where the erupting hot spring Geysir is located, ruv.is reports.

The organizers of the cruise ships’ tours say that it will prove difficult to accommodate all these people, but Mábil Másdóttir, director at Hotel Geysir, is certain it will work out well.

She is expecting approximately 2,000 lunch guests at her hotel, and a similar number for afternoon coffee and dinner, so the traffic spreads out over the day.

Everything is prepared, Mábil said. Her employees and associates are experienced and when communication between drivers, guides and local staff runs smoothly, there will be no problem.

Some former employees have also offered her their assistance if necessary.
