Reykjavík Police on Lookout for Python

Police in Reykjavík are looking for a two meter long python after a photograph of the animal recently appeared on social media.

Police suspect that the animal was being kept in a house in the capital area but are unsure whether it is still alive.

The import of reptiles to Iceland is illegal, Margeir Sveinsson, assistant chief police officer in the nearby town of Hafnarfjörður, told visir.is.

If found, the animal will be put down in part due to a risk of infection including salmonella, visir.is reports.

Police ask anyone with information to contact 444-1000.
