Reykjavík Participates in International Pillow Fight Day

By Iceland Review

The International Pillow Fight Day will be held today in a number of cities across the globe and this year Iceland’s capital is on the list of participants. The fight begins at 3 pm on Austurvöllur parliamentary square.

Everyone interested to participate is advised to bring their own pillows. According to a press release, this is the perfect opportunity to release built-up anger and frustration in a funny and entertaining way.

The International Pillow Fight day was first held by the Urban Playground Movement last year, which has the goal to “make these unique happenings in public space become a significant part of popular culture, partially replacing passive, non-social, branded consumption experiences like watching television, and consciously rejecting the blight on our cities caused by the endless creep of advertising into public space,” as described on its website.

The event proved highly popular last year. According to The Wall Street Journal, more than 5,000 people participated in the pillow fight in New York, setting a new record as the world’s largest flash mob.
