Reykjavík Nightclub Catches Fire

An old building in central Reykjavík where the nightclub Batteríid is located caught fire early this morning. All firefighters on watch were called to the scene and smoke divers made sure that no one was inside the building.

In spite of the raging fire, firefighters were quick to get the situation under control and distinguish the fire. Gas containers were carried out of the building and cooled down. Firefighters are still monitoring the building in case of embers, reports.

The house, which was renovated a few years ago, suffered extensive damages but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings in the neighborhood. There are many historical buildings nearby, such as Gaukur á Stöng, Kaffi Reykjavík and Fálkahúsid.

The source of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
