Reykjavík Needs 600 New Hotel Rooms Per Year

Six hundred new hotel rooms need to be built in Reykjavík each year for the next six years, doubling the capacity from 4,000 hotel rooms to 8,100, to meet the forecasted demand.

Landsbanki’s economics department, which held a conference about the state of the tourist industry yesterday, forecast that visitors to Iceland will double in just six years, from one million in 2014 to two million in 2021.

Five years ago, hotel rooms in the capital numbered 2,400, up 900 rooms from 2000, visir.is reports.
