Reykjavík’s reputation for calm and safety has been reaffirmed, as the Icelandic capital has once again been named the safest city in the world.
This is according to the latest State of Travel Insurance Safest Destinations report by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection.
The Icelandic capital topped the rankings for the second consecutive year, reinforcing its global reputation for peace, security, and community trust.
While Iceland slipped from first to fourth place overall in the safest countries list, it continues to be recognised as one of the world’s most secure destinations.
What makes Iceland safe?

The report highlights Iceland’s low crime rate, strong social welfare system, and robust emergency preparedness, particularly in dealing with natural events such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
The annual survey, now in its 11th year, is based on feedback from thousands of American travellers and draws on global data about crime, terrorism, health risks, and weather-related hazards.
This year’s top three safest countries are the Netherlands, Australia, and Austria, with Iceland just behind them.
Reykjavík’s standing at the top of the list highlights Iceland’s enduring reputation for safety and stability, qualities that remain key to its appeal among travellers.
