The project, Geðveikjól (‘Insane Christmas’), is an annual Christmas song competition among companies and institutions. The 15 companies participating this year are asked to select or write a Christmas song and submit a corresponding video.

The public is asked to vote for the “most insane Christmas song of 2012” via sms with proceeds going to the Icelandic Mental Health Alliance, an NGO which supports and promotes positive mental health.

In other Christmas-related news, the Icelandic government announced on Friday that the ministries would not send Christmas cards (to recipients in Iceland) this year, but would instead allocate ISK 7.5 million (USD 60,000, EUR 45,770) of the budget to ten aid organizations including the Icelandic Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Samhjálp, Fjölskylduhjálp Íslands and Icelandic Church Aid, ruv.is reports.
