The police believe they have found the place where a young man killed the mother of his child on Thursday. It is located in the outdoor recreational area Heidmörk and was investigated by the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police on Friday.

The cause of death has not been confirmed yet but according to Fréttabladid’s sources, it appears that the victim, who was born in 1990, was strangled.
The couple’s two-year-old son was in the car when the incident occurred, the newspaper describes. The man is said to have placed the body in the trunk of the car and then driven the boy to his parents’ home before continuing to the Landspítali hospital in Fossvogur where he informed hospital staff about the body.
The police were immediately called to the scene, arrested the man and questioned him. He confessed to having committed the murder. He was sentenced to two weeks in custody in Reykjanes District Court on Friday and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
