Street lights in four suburbs of Iceland’s capital will be turned off from 9:30-10 pm this evening to improve the visibility of the northern lights. The aurora forecast for tonight is good.

The suburbs where the lights will be turned off are Öskuhlíð (where the landmark building Perlan is located), Skólavörðuholt (downtown) and Grafarholt and Breiðholt-Seljahverfi on the outskirts of the city, as stated in a press release.
Residents of the above suburbs are encouraged to participate by turning off the lights in their apartments to as to further reduce the amount of light pollution.
