Reykjavík Jazz Festival Starts Today

Reykjavík Jazz Festival kicks off today with a parade leaving from Lucky Records (near the bus terminal at Hlemmur) at 5:30 pm and marching down to Harpa Concert Hall. An opening ceremony will follow at Harpa, including speeches, musical performances and the opening of photographer Slawek Przerwa’s new exhibition.

Reykjavík Jazz Festival has been held since 1990 and aims to present the best in Icelandic music, and to connect with the international music scene. It is organized by the FIH Jazz Department, assisted by the FIH cultural fund, the City of Reykjavík and the State Fund for Music.

Programming will continue tomorrow and over the weekend, and the festival concludes next Wednesday with Icelandic band ADHD’s performance in Harpa.

Other musicians and groups at this year’s festival include Pedrito Martinez Group feat Ariacne, Chris Speed, Secret Swing Society, K TRIO/VALDI, Ásgeir and Adam Baldych.

Tickets are available at Harpa and on the Harpa website.
