The annual Reykjavík Jazz Festival begins on August 20, Reykjavík Culture Night, and will run through September 3. On Sunday, Golden Era Swing with Ragnheidur Gröndal and the Wolverines will be played at the Reykjavík Culture House.
On August 25, festival goers will be able to enjoy the collaboration between bassist Skúli Sverrisson and saxophonist Óskar Gudjónsson, who released the album Eftir thögn (“After Silence”) in 2002.
These two “pillars of Icelandic improvised music” will now present a new album at the Reykjavík Jazz Festival, as stated on midi.is.
As for other events, the funk band Fönksveinar and Ómar Gudjónsson’s quartet, as well as Eyland, a band that plays “original high energy music,” will perform on August 26, while one of the foremost Icelandic jazz musicians Jóel Pálsson, whose album Horn was recently named Jazz Album of the Year, will perform the following day.
Foreign artists include Elifantree, a Finnish-Swedish band consisting of vocals, saxophone and drums, and The Kandinsky Effect, who have been touring extensively through North America and Europe over the last few years.
