Reykjavík Jazz Festival Coming Up

The Reykjavík Jazz Festival (RJF) will be held August 14-29 for the 21st time this year. The program mainly consists of concerts by artists from the local jazz scene, which is surprisingly vibrant for such a small community.

The veterans Mezzoforte will participate in the festival as they have in past years and newcomers include the K-Trio and Absolute Nonsense (Reginfirra), both of whom are winners of the Scandinavian Young Jazz Comets, as stated on icelandmusic.is.

There are international acts as well, including British pianist Django Bates and his Beloved Bird Trio, composer and pianist Jean Marie Machado from France and Maria Babtist and Achim Kauffman from Germany.

A festival pass costs ISK 8,000 (USD 65, EUR 50) and can be bought on midi.is. The two large showcase concerts will be broadcast live from Studio Sýrland’s website on August 17 and 24 at 2 pm local time.
