Reykjavík International Games Successful

The annual Reykjavík International Games were held for the third time in the capital’s Laugardalur district, dubbed “the Valley of Sport,” last weekend. Around 2,000 athletes, 300 of whom were foreign, participated in the games which were considered a success.

The highlights among Icelandic participants include swimmer Jakob Jóhann Sveinsson beating Norwegian Olympic silver medalist Alexander Dale Oen in 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2.16.84 minutes, Morgunbladid reports.

However, Dale Oen was quicker than Sveinsson in 50 and 100-meter breaststroke. More than 250 contestants alone participated in swimming during the games, 90 of whom were foreign swimmers.

Participants competed in ten different sports categories at the games, including judo, gymnastics, figure skating, track and field, fencing and dancing.
