The inhabitants of Ásgardur in the Bústadahverfi neighborhood in Reykjavík feel insecure after the shooting on Christmas Eve, which the police believe was attempted murder. The neighbors of the targeted family who helped them escape are afraid to sleep in their house.

“First there were two gunmen. Then I looked out the window and saw that they had left. Fifteen minutes later we saw a group of armed people. Someone knocked on our balcony door and we let a woman inside. Then we heard the shooting,” the neighbor described to visir.is. Shortly afterwards the entire family was inside their house.
“We are afraid to sleep. We are scared because we know the police can’t protect us,” the neighbor added. The police won’t guard their house, even though this is not the first time that crime gangs appear in the neighborhood. It also appears as if the gunmen targeted the wrong house to begin with.
The alleged shooters were sentenced to ten days in custody and questioned yesterday but the person believed to be their leader is on the loose. The police haven’t revealed any details about the case.
