Reykjavik Gay Pride 2005 starts tonight at Club NASA; concerts, a parade, theatre shows and parties are among the festivities planned throughout the city for the weekend.
The parade starts at 1 PM on Saturday, at the local bus terminal Hlemmur, an outdoor concert in the city center follows. Last year over forty thousand people attended the parade and concert.
According to the Reykjavík Gay Pride website “the gay rights campaign in Iceland has a history of twenty five years…the lesbians and gay men in Iceland have now gained social and legal rights which is comparable to the best of its kind in the world. This is clearly reflected in our festivities – a true manifestation of our pride and ambitions.”
The festival ends with a soccer match on Sunday at the KR- Soccer Field.
VIP cards valid for all the events are available for ISK 4.500. More information including a schedule of events can be found at http://www.this.is/gaypride/
