Reykjavík Culture Night this Saturday

The Reykjavík Culture Night will be held for the 21st time on Saturday, August 20th. Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson opens the festival in Grjótaþorp, downtown Reykjavík, at 12:30 pm.

Museum and art studios throughout the city will open their doors and offer a programs reflecting their projects planned for winter. Culture Night is a family festival, offering events that appeal to young and old alike.

Street closings, Culture Night

Numerous streets in downtown Reykjavík will be closed to motorized traffic between the hours of 7 am on Saturday and 2 am on Sunday (see streets marked in pink above). Guests are encouraged to use public transportation, take out their bikes or to walk downtown. Free shuttles will operate from Kirkjusandur and Gamla Hringbraut, near large parking lots. Bus rides will be free of charge. You can look up Strætó’s bus schedule here.

Coffee and waffles will be offered by more than ten families in their homes.

A concert will be held on Arnarhóll, starting at 8 pm, where a number of Icelandic bands and singers will appear. A garden party is planned in Hljómskálagarðurinn park, where many musicians will entertain.

The festival concludes with a fireworks show at 11 pm.
