Reykjavík City Council decided to look into the possibility of starting a public bicycle sharing system on Thursday, establishing a task force to investigate its feasibility.
Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertson explained to visir.is that the project is designed to support both sustainable forms of transport, as well as healthier habits.
The sharing system would include several bicycle hubs and renters can take a bike from one location and return it at another.
The task force will look into how similar services abroad, such as New York’s Citi Bike, structure their systems, and how to best adapt them to Icelandic conditions.
