Reykjavík City to Increase Funding for Kindergartens

The new coalition majority in Reykjavík City Council announced yesterday that it would increase funding to the city’s kindergartens and other educational and caretaking facilities in 2007 and 2008 by more than ISK 750 million (USD 12 million, EUR 9 million).

The council’s plan includes that the leaders of elementary schools will be offered to disburse ISK 200 million (USD 3 million, EUR 2 million) to their employees to improve their wages, ruv.is reports.

Additionally, kindergarten employees and other caretakers will be paid overtime if they spend their lunches with the children or their protégés.
