The Welfare Committee of Reykjavík City agreed to a four-year strategy yesterday on improving the situation of the homeless. In the next few weeks four huts will be opened as long-term shelters for homeless people.
Jórunn Frímannsdóttir, head of the committee, said the strategy also includes increasing cooperation and preventive measures, strengthening short-term solutions and creating more long-term solutions, 24 Stundir reports.
With an effective strategy, the committee aims at preventing homelessness on the streets of Reykjavík and provide everyone with shelters, either as short-term or long-term solutions, Frímannsdóttir said.
