Reykjavík City Council Cancels Annual Feast

As part of Reykjavík City’s savings measures, its annual banquet at the Höfdi reception building for council members, deputy council members, high-ranking city employees and their partners—up to 100 people—will be canceled.

Mayor Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir told Morgunbladid that she expects council members and city officials to be understanding about this decision.

“We are looking for ways of rationalization and saving on both large and small scale and this is just one of the things which we have to do without for now,” the mayor said.

Last year guests had to pay for participating in the banquet for the first time, yet it hadn’t been sufficient to cover the cost.

It was discussed to raise the admission from ISK 5,000 to 7,000 (USD 40 to 56, EUR 28 to 39) this year but instead the banquet was canceled.
