Reykjavík Bus Shelters to Be Insulated and Heated

The board of Reykjavík Energy (OR) agreed to plans of insulating and heating the most frequently used bus shelters in the capital region in a board meeting last week, e.g. outside the main building of the University of Iceland and the largest junior colleges.

One bus shelter in Akranes, west Iceland, may also be included in the plans, Fréttabladid reports.

“Many people don’t find it boring to travel with the bus or walk to and from the bus stop. They like riding on the bus itself, but they don’t like waiting for the bus, especially when the weather is bad,” said chairman of OR’s board Kjartan Magnússon.

Therefore, Magnússon reasoned, it would be a good idea for OR to make the stay in the bus shelter more pleasant for commuters.

OR will now seek collaboration with Straetó, the Reykjavík bus company, and the environment and transport divisions of Reykjavík City on executing this project.
