Minister of the Interior Ögmundur Jónasson (pictured) will meet the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and the Chief of the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police to discuss the bombing near the Government Offices last week. The culprit has not been found.
The police have announced that they are looking for a heavy-set middle-aged man who is believed to have been in the area when the bomb went off and may be responsible for it, Fréttablaðið reports.
The suspect’s picture was captured by a security camera. He was wearing loose blue jeans, a dark parka and a hooded sweater.
A witness saw him run into a small white van of the make Renault Kangoo and drive away. According to information from the Road Traffic Directorate, there are 759 such vehicles registered in Iceland.
Ögmundur would not comment on the case until after the meeting has taken place but it has been reported that the reasons for the police taking two hours to react to notification of the bombing is being looked into.
