Reykjavík Arts Festival: Two of world’s top baritones booked

Two of the world’s most illustrious baritones, Bryn Terfel and Dmitri Hvorostovsky, will perform at the Reykjavík Arts Festival next spring, each giving a concert. RÚV online reports.

Terfel and Hvorostovsky have enjoyed enormous success since they both took part in an opera competition held by the BBC in Cardiff in 1989. There they battled it out for the top prize in what has been called the ‘duel of the baritones’. Today they are two of the most sought-after opera singers in the world.

According to Thórunn Sigurdardóttir, director of the Reykjavík Arts Festival, she was in touch with the agents of both singers, and since they were both available and each well able to fill the Háskólabíó venue, she decided to book them both.
