The 20th Reykjavík Arts Festival kicks off today with an opening ceremony at the Reykjavík Municipal Theatre. This year’s festival focuses on music, with approximately 50 events taking place featuring some 600 artists, nearly 400 of them Icelandic. Highlights include a concert in the Grand Finale tour by African singer Miriam Makeba, a performance by Brazilian dance troupe Grupo Corpo, the opening of the Settlement Exhibition, which based on archaeological finds in Reykjavík, and a live performance of the radio program A Prairie Home Companion at the National Theatre.
