The 27th Reykjavík Arts Festival (RAF) kicks off tomorrow with a ten-minute newly commissioned sound piece by the Vessel Orchestra at 5:45 pm at Reykjavík harbor. The best spot to view the performance will be down on the quays where composer Lilja Birgisdóttir will conduct ‘flutes’ of all the ships in the harbor, as stated on the website of RAF.
The opening concert is a performance by the Bang on a Can All-Stars at Harpa concert hall at 8:30 pm. The band is described as a six-member ensemble which freely crosses the boundaries between classical, jazz, world and experimental music.
Also opening tomorrow is the Subjective Maps – Disappearances exhibition at 6 pm at the National Gallery of Iceland, which maps the expressive approach of artists from nations with a population of less than one million.
