They will launch the 2011 Reykjavík Arts Festival on the square with their one-time show tomorrow at 3 pm after the formal opening today.

The act is described as an exciting experience for the entire family. Part of the show will take place at a height of 50 meters above the audience’s heads, which is considerably higher than the buildings on Austurvöllur.

Aviation authorities will change the regular flight routes over the city center because of the show.

La Fura dels Baus is a superpower in the world of the performing arts and has performed for millions of spectators around the world. “Their challenging and powerful shows move the audience and keep them spellbound from the first minute,” as described on the Art Festival’s website.

The multi-artist group started as a street theater in Barcelona 30 years ago and was quick to catch the world’s attention with its unique performances.

In 1992 the group performed the opening act at the Olympics in Barcelona and has since staged plays, operas and various outdoor shows where everything is mixed into one: theater, rock music, acrobatics, movies and dance.
